Always the 2nd Saturday in July. Free entry to Watermelon Festival Grounds on Saturday. Street Dance kicks off the Friday night before from 8pm-11:30pm ~ Entry fee at gate by railroad tracks. Beverages & food available for purchase and lightup toys for the kiddos by vendor. Saturday morning kicks off at 6:30am with Sweatin' Melons 5K and 7am Uptown in the Historical area for the watermelon weigh-in. Locals compete form prize melon status. In 2020 we had a record weigh-in of 188lbs Grand Champion watermelon. Car show starts at 8am till 1pm. Parade starts Uptown at 10am. By 10:30am the festival ground are hopping with people returning from the parade a block away. Concessions open, vendors, live music under the pavilion. Cornhole & washer pitching tournaments under the large oak shade trees. This year we will have our 1st ever BBQ Cook-Off ( signup on line). Also we have bingo, watermelon eating contest, seed spitting contest, Riding mower rodeo (this is a timed obstacle course, lots of fun to watch. Participation requires your own mower). Prize melon action happens at 5pm with a free melon feast for all, large slices too! We will have an sandy activity area for anyone to enjoy and water misting stations to help visitors cool off and picnic tables sitting under big oak trees. Come join our small town fun & charm.
