Viva Elgin: A Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Saturday, September 20th | 5PM - 9PM | All Ages | FREE 

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us and learn about the rich history and culture through interactive booths, live music, art, performances, art, food, and more on Saturday, September 20th from 5PM - 9PM at Veterans Memorial Park! 

We will have free craft stations where are you can help create a Papel Picado Community Banner with EPD, Luminarias with Elgin Parks & Rec, and a concha craft with the Elgin Public Library. Our free interactive booths will include a musical instrument station by Studio 22 Music Academy, face paint and balloons courtesy of La Culutra Market, and you can taste then vote for your favorite charro bean recipe! You will be able to learn how to make tortillas from scratch at the tortilla making station sponsored by Carmona's Western Wear. Elgin Parks & Recreation Mobile Rec Unit will be onsite with Blueblocks and giant lawn games. La Unidad Nortena will be giving a performance for the ages starting at 6:00PM. At 7:15 PM, learn about what a grito is and then try to rouse the crowd with your best loud cry to win the prize provided by Carmona's Western Wear. 

Is your charro bean recipe the very best in all of Elgin? Put it to the test at the charro bean cook off at Viva Elgin to win the prize provided by Valentina's. Tasting will take place 5PM - 7PM with the winner announced after 7PM. The community will vote which charro bean recipe is superior.
