Dia de los Muertos Community Display
Friday, October 2, 2026
Description
The Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center will once again welcome the community for its longstanding Día de los Muertos Community Display, a special tradition centered on remembrance, reflection, and community. The display features ofrendas (altars) created by local families to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. Each ofrenda tells a personal story, creating a shared space where visitors can pause, reflect, and celebrate the lives of those who came before us. Visitors can also learn about the history and traditions of Día de los Muertos and the significance of this meaningful holiday as well as leave messages and flowers at a community ofrenda. The Grand Opening is October 2, and the display will remain on view through November 1. On November 1, the ofrendas will also be featured as part of the Honor Walk in downtown Bastrop, bringing this tradition of remembrance into the community. The Día de los Muertos Community Display is included with regular museum admission. The museum invites the community to come together, honor those who have passed, and reflect on the memories and traditions that connect us.
