Cardboard Boat Race - Adult and Youth Competitions

Get your team together and start designing! This event is a great way to work as a family to build the best boat out of cardboard and race it in Morris Memorial Pool! There will be a youth race and an adult speed build competition! Prizes for winning teams!

Youth Boat Race:
Build your boat in advance and arrive by 9:45AM to check in and take photos of your boat. The race will begin around 10:15AM where one rider will be INSIDE the boat, paddling with their arms across the length of the pool. The first boat to make it to the opposite side of the pool wins!

COST: $5 per boat
PERMITTED MATERIALS:
 - Cardboard
 - Duct Tape
 - Permanent Markers

Adult Boat Build Competition:
Arrive no later than 10:30AM to get signed in and have supplies allotted to you. Teams will be permitted 10 minutes to build a sea-worthy boat with the supplied cardboard and duct tape. After the 10 min build time, boats will be put in the water and one team member will paddle it across the pool. First team to make it to the other side wins!
COST: $5 per team of 2

RULES:
1. Boats must be made entirely out of cardboard and duct tape and should fit one rower
2. Boats may be no longer than 8 feet and no wider than 4 feet
3. Joints and seams may only be taped - When taping seams, only 1.5 inches of tape can overlap the seam
5. Must be able to row the boat with your hands
6. All races are the length of the pool from one edge to the other
7. Materials other than those listed above are forbidden
8. Boats must be free of sharp edges and anything else that may pose danger to others
9. If the rower falls out of the boat the team is disqualified
10. The name of each boat should be above the waterline of the pool
11. Boats can only be decorated with permanent markers - All boat names, designs, themes, etc. should be appropriate
12. No violence or explicit language will be tolerated - No alcohol, drugs, smoking or vaping is permitted on the premises.
